“In St. Martin (and other islands), they have people all around the island trying to get you to do tours of time share condos. We fell for a scam where the girl who stopped us on the road said, ‘You could win $500 or and iPad!’
According to her, all we just have to scratch off this ticket. Then she scratches it off and goes, ‘OMG! YOU TOTALLY WON! I AM SO PSYCHED FOR YOU GUYS! ALSO THIS WILL GET ME $50! THANK YOU! JUST FOLLOW ME DOWN THE HILL!’
She was so excited that we actually believed her. Well we get there and we wait for twenty minutes, get a free drink, and then go on the tour. We are put into a sales meeting and quickly decline. Then the boss comes over and hard sells us, and we again decline. They get ticked off. Finally they say, ‘Okay, go get your reward.’
We wait ten minutes more and finally realize the award is just a free weekend at one of their condos. It was really nothing special when you are already on vacation and probably will not come back in under a year (when the deal expires). We wasted two hours on vacation for a sales pitch. When we were leaving, we felt so duped by that girl. She obviously lied and just acted the way she did because she only gets money if she brings them potential buyers. Oh well, she was a pretty excellent actor though!”
